Upgraded web host to Ubuntu 9.04

Hopefully there won't be any problems.  Everything seems to be working fine, but I won't feel too comfortable until this has been up and running for a couple of days with no issues.

New server, new URL, new blog!

I’ve upgraded the webserver this blog runs on to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS from 6.06 LTS.  In the process, I’ve changed my blogging platform to WordPress and the primary URL is now www.duckpuppy.com – I’ll be keeping PondhouseOnline, at least in URL form, so it should start redirecting soon.  The PondhouseOnline URL will be a temporary redirect – I have plans for that URL, but it’s too soon to announce anything.  Until then, this is the new home of Random Inconsequential Thoughts.  It’s not pretty yet, but I’m working on that.

Trying out WordPress

I'm trying out WordPress for my blogging needs. Drupal is a great CMS, but what I really want is a nice simple yet feature rich blogging platform, and WordPress seems to suit that need. It has working Gallery2 support (which isn't really there yet on Drupal 6, and doesn't seem like it will be any time soon), better blogging API support, much easier upgrade path, and a very easy to use admin system without too much crap that isn't about blogging. Hopefully this will work out and I'll be more inclined to keep this blog up now that it's easier to maintain.
